Science Day - an explosion of fun!
On Wednesday 13th March 2024, Ruma, one of our wonderful Early Years Educators in Jeffers Room organised a most wonderful day of learning through the platform of science. We invited our parents to experience the day with their children and it was a fantastic experience for all involved. Here, Ruma offers her thoughts on the day.
Welcome to our Rebecca Cheetham Science Day extravaganza! We had an absolute blast diving into the fascinating world of science with our little explorers. From colourful Skittles experiments to mesmerising lava lamps, magical milk, and beyond, we embarked on an unforgettable journey of discovery and wonder. Let's take a closer look at the incredible experiments that took place across all our classrooms!
Skittles Rainbow Magic : We started our science adventure by making rainbows with Skittles candies! We placed the colorful candies around the edge of a plate and added a little water. Then, we watched in amazement as the colors magically spread and mixed together, creating a beautiful rainbow right before our eyes!
Lava Lamp : Next up, we made our very own lava lamps! We added 2tbs of baking soda to the glass, filled half the glass with oil and food colouring / vinegar and watched as bubbles of gas rose to the top, creating mesmerizing blobs of color that danced around like lava in a volcano!
Magical Milk Masterpiece: Have you ever seen milk perform magic tricks? Well, we did! We poured some milk into a tray and added drops of food coloring. Then, we dipped a cotton swab into dish soap and touched it to the milk. Suddenly, the colors swirled and twirled, creating beautiful patterns that looked like magic!
Rain Cloud in a Glass Jar: With just a few simple ingredients, we made our very own rain clouds! We filled a clear glass with water and added shaving cream on top to represent clouds. Then, we dropped blue food coloring onto the shaving cream, and just like magic, tiny drops of "rain" started to fall through the clouds and into the water below!
Volcano Eruption Extravaganza: And finally, the highlight of our Science Day was making our very own volcano erupt! We crafted a volcano out of recycled bottles and paper and filled it with baking soda. Then, we poured in some vinegar, and whoosh! The volcano erupted with a fizzy explosion of lava, leaving us all in awe!
But the fun didn't stop there! Our nursery's Science Day was made even more special by the presence of our wonderful parents, who joined us in the excitement and enthusiasm for science. Together, we shared laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments that will be cherished for years to come.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on this incredible science adventure!
